Join us as a Private Banker on our growing Private Banking and Wealth Management team based in Leeds.
The Private Banking team offers customized banking and investment solutions to ultra-high-net-worth clients. Barclays Private Bankers serve as trusted advisors to clients, providing tailored banking services, lending, and wealth structuring, in addition to a world-class range of investment solutions and products across all asset classes.
Private Bankers are expected to identify, initiate, build, and maintain effective introductory relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a steady stream of opportunities for new clients, assets, and revenue. To achieve this, you must be proactive in identifying and developing opportunities and must be skilled at influencing others to create and grow effective partnerships both within the organization and externally to drive performance.
Purpose of the Role
: Deliver exceptional sales and business performance by acquiring, developing, and maintaining highly proactive, long-term client relationships. Protect Barclays’ reputation through sound risk decisions by managing client groups within their risk profiles and the appropriate regulatory framework.
Tasks
- Manage and grow client relationships and acquire new clients—identifying and managing solutions to meet a wide range of client needs.
- Develop a solid understanding of the strategies of the clients in their portfolio through regular, proactive contact, responding to client and prospect inquiries and requests, and identifying opportunities that will deliver long-term commercial returns.
- Manage operational, reputational, financial crime, and credit risk for the portfolio to avoid exposing Barclays to undue risk.
- Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Barclays policies and policy standards. Service/group relationships—referrals to group colleagues.
- Support the Senior Private Banker in growing a portfolio of UHNW clients, understanding their financial goals and risk appetite
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing exceptional service and financial advice
- Conduct regular reviews of clients’ investment and financial portfolios
- Become a key person and subject matter expert within the team for banking products, credit advice, investment knowledge, and more complex client inquiries
- Deliver high-quality, customized advice, maximizing value for our clients and negotiating the best commercial outcome
- Identify and onboard new clients through networking, referrals, and strategic partnerships
- Develop and execute tailored strategies to attract and retain high-net-worth clients in the region
- Attend client events, wealth management forums, and other high-profile gatherings in London
- Provide advice on portfolio management, estate planning, succession, and offshore structuring as appropriate
- Keep clients informed about market trends, economic updates, and investment opportunities

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications
- Level 4 RDR certification or equivalent
- Exceptional client service and relationship management skills with ultra-high-net-worth clients and demonstrable experience in building and managing this client base
- Previous experience in controlling and monitoring risk within a client portfolio
- Strong knowledge of global economic and political conditions, current affairs, and competitor activity, as well as their impact on clients
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working as a private banker with a client base having investable assets of at least £3 million
- Excellent knowledge of regulated credit agreements, investment advice, deposits, portfolio management services, and financial promotions
- Strong aptitude and understanding of the digital landscape, with the ability to effectively manage clients’ evolving needs in this area
