Our client is a family office based in Bavaria (Munich area) that professionally manages and advises on complex wealth structures for select entrepreneurial families, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals. The organization combines traditional asset management expertise with an investment and entrepreneurial mindset within a small, collaborative team. In the Private Markets division—direct investments, co-investments, private equity funds, and real assets—the role is being strategically realigned and is institutionally integrated into the family office’s investment architecture. The goal is to systematically and analytically elevate investment activities to a new level of quality and to consistently integrate them into the overall wealth strategy of the families under management. To strengthen the investment team, we are seeking a Private Markets professional with strong analytical skills who will be responsible for and actively develop the organization’s investment and portfolio expertise in the illiquid asset class.

Tasks

The Private Markets Manager (m|f|x) is responsible for the systematic analysis and evaluation of investment opportunities in illiquid assets—private equity, co-investments, direct investments, real assets, and infrastructure. He or she works with external management to guide existing and future investments in their strategic direction, monitors financial performance, and prepares investment decisions for the Investment Committee and the client families under their care. Another key focus is on the selection and ongoing monitoring of external fund managers: structured selection process, due diligence, manager assessment, and ongoing quality assurance. The Private Markets Manager (m/f/d) consistently integrates investment activities into the overall wealth management strategy for the client families under management—in close coordination with the Head of Investments and the Managing Director. He or she communicates complex investment matters clearly and in a manner tailored to the audience when addressing the Investment Committee and the Foundation Board. The role offers genuine scope for shaping the future: The Private Markets division is becoming more institutionalized—the person who takes on this position will establish structured analysis and selection processes and position Private Markets as a respected, integral part of the family office’s investment architecture.

Profile / Your qualification / Your personality

You hold a college degree and have several years of professional experience in the private markets sector—ideally from a single- or multi-family office, a private equity firm, a fund-of-funds platform, a real asset investor, or an investment company owned by entrepreneurial families. Relevant certifications (CFA, CAIA, or similar) are welcome. You bring deep expertise in the analysis, valuation, and management of illiquid investments: private equity (funds and direct investments), real assets, infrastructure, and co-investments. Experience in structured fund manager selection—including the due diligence process, manager assessment, and ongoing performance monitoring—is required. You possess strong analytical skills and sound judgment: You quickly and confidently grasp investment structures, fund concepts, and investment theses, and present complex issues clearly and in a way that enables decision-making. At the same time, you communicate clearly and tailor your messages to the audience—whether addressing the Investment Committee or client families. Personally, you stand out for your integrity, discretion, and ability to work effectively in a team. Important: This role is explicitly neither a sales position nor an executive management role—we are seeking a substantive private markets expert who makes an impact through the quality of their analyses and recommendations and serves as an ongoing sounding board for the operational management of the portfolio companies. Excellent proficiency in German and English is required. The appeal of this role lies in the opportunity to build the Private Markets division from the ground up in an owner-managed family office with a strong investment culture—in an environment that prioritizes substantive content over product logic and values genuine expert judgment.
