Join us as a Discretionary Portfolio Manager to support private banking clients with discretionary investment portfolios that reflect their financial goals, investment preferences, and risk profiles. You will work closely with Private Bankers and clients, providing investment guidance, portfolio insights, and market commentary while helping to build and maintain long-term client relationships. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to Investment Committee discussions and support the development of asset allocation views and investment approaches.
You will be involved in monitoring portfolios, reviewing market developments, and supporting the implementation of investment activity across client accounts in line with individual client mandates. You will also assist with portfolio administration and transactions, contribute to improvements in portfolio management processes, and prepare investment reports, analyses, and client presentations. Working alongside colleagues across the business, you will support a range of projects that contribute to the continued development of the discretionary portfolio management offering.
Purpose of the role: To generate returns, manage risk, and ensure the portfolio’s financial stability and long-term success.
Tasks
- Allocation and monitoring of securities within a portfolio, aligned with the bank’s risk tolerance framework and changing market conditions, investment objectives, and regulatory requirements, using specialized software and data analytics tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of portfolio management.
- Conducting research and analysis on various securities (equities, bonds, funds) to identify profitable investment opportunities, in line with the bank’s risk tolerance.
- Communicating the bank’s investment philosophy, decision-making process, and investment selection to clients and other key stakeholders, such as relationship managers and investment advisors.
- Monitoring performance against benchmarks and objectives, analyzing risk metrics, and preparing reports for senior colleagues and internal stakeholders.
- Implementing risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate potential financial risks associated with the portfolio, such as market fluctuations, credit risk, and liquidity risk.
- Conducting simulations to assess the portfolio’s resilience to different market scenarios and economic downturns, identifying potential vulnerabilities, recommending risk mitigation strategies, and communicating key findings to senior executives and board members.
- Monitoring economic data, industry news, and geopolitical events to anticipate potential impacts on the portfolio and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Researching emerging asset classes, innovative investment strategies, and alternative investments to potentially enhance portfolio returns.
- Manage relationships with investment banks, market makers, and other external partners as needed for portfolio transactions and information gathering.
Profile / Your qualification / Your personality
To be successful as a Discretionary Portfolio Manager, you should have experience with:
- Discretionary portfolio management within private banking, wealth management, or a similar investment-focused environment, including portfolio construction and asset allocation across a range of asset classes
- Building and maintaining relationships with private clients, including discussions on investment strategy and portfolio performance
- Financial markets, investment products, and the use of financial statement analysis in an investment context
- Participation in investment or portfolio committee meetings and the preparation of portfolio reviews, investment reports, and client presentations
- A master’s degree in finance or economics, or an equivalent professional qualification such as the CFA, along with fluency in English and French
