The Credit Analyst is an evolving professional role that supports the Bank’s growth by analyzing transactions to ensure they meet the business’s risk and return objectives. The candidate is expected to handle most issues independently and has some discretion in solving complex problems. The role combines in-depth knowledge of the specialty area with a solid understanding of industry standards and practices, analytical thinking, and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies.
Candidates will receive the support they need for their professional growth through various training programs and guidance from experienced credit officers, which will enable them to first participate in and eventually lead credit due diligence with clients.
Tasks
- Work alongside credit underwriters and bankers to structure and analyze credit requests for new and existing clients.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with bank guidelines whenever necessary to assess the creditworthiness of existing and prospective borrowers.
- Produce credit summaries that analyze the business, perform financial analysis, identify strengths, and assess prevailing risk factors to facilitate appropriate risk and return decisions.
- Prepare company financial projections to assess clients’ repayment capacity.
- Conduct preliminary analysis of simple to moderately complex credit cases and coordinate with credit underwriters, risk partners, and relationship managers. Present credit analysis to senior stakeholders and effectively address questions when challenged.
- Conduct ongoing early warning monitoring and prepare annual credit reviews for a portfolio of clients.
- Stay informed about developments in the global economy and designated industries to support early warning monitoring.
- Work with colleagues globally to offer credit solutions to international subsidiaries while understanding local market requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Citibank’s credit policies and practices, as well as regulatory requirements, to ensure the business unit adheres to these standards and receives satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
- Provide leadership, training, and coaching to junior credit analysts on the team and may act as a junior underwriter supporting senior credit officers on simple credit reviews.
- Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; adhering to policies; exercising sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices; and transparently escalating, managing, and reporting control issues.
- Perform other duties as required to support business unit and company goals, including but not limited to monthly workflow planning, administrative tasks related to financial monitoring and updates, and follow-up and monitoring of periodic reports and deliverables.
Profile / Your qualification / Your personality
- 2–5 years of prior experience at a financial institution with a focus on credit analysis and spreadsheet software.
- The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial regulations, financial products, and credit analysis.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of German would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of accounting theory and the ability to read and evaluate company financial statements.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word are preferred), including the use of graphs, models, and charts.
- Related banking experience is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
