Morgan Stanley is seeking a risk professional to join the Credit Risk Management department in Frankfurt at the Associate level. The role holder will be responsible for the credit risk management of the Firm’s business with clients and will also be involved in credit risk management-related governance and regulatory deliverables.

Firm Risk Management

Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley in achieving its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board, and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, and other risks.

Background on the Position

The role will be based within Firm Risk Management’s Credit Risk Management Department. Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them, taking into account the availability and appropriateness of risk reduction or mitigation measures. The department also assigns internal credit ratings, establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board, and monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.

Tasks

  • Analyze and identify credit risks in transactions (loans and derivatives) and understand the impact these have on our portfolio and risk appetite; follow up on transaction execution to ensure loans and trades are booked correctly
  • Analyze counterparty creditworthiness, assist in managing exposures and limits, identify and quantify risk drivers, prepare credit memos, and make recommendations
  • Understand how macroeconomic, market, and company-specific events, as well as new financial regulations, impact the firm’s portfolio, clients, and counterparty credit quality
  • Participate in client due diligence meetings to understand their strategy, financial performance, and business requirements
  • Liaise as necessary with other Risk and non-Risk groups, including Market Risk, XVA, BU Risk, Credit Methodology, Credit Capital, Operations, Legal, and Finance
  • Contribute to internal management reporting and regulatory exercises, including the preparation of materials for regulatory submissions and meetings
  • FRM is committed to creating and providing opportunities that enable our workforce to reflect diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Profile / Your qualification / Your personality

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in dealing with traded products and the trade approval process, i.e., working with traders and sales teams
  • Understanding of financial markets, credit analysis, and the ability to analyze key risks and mitigants
  • Familiarity with financial products, e.g., swaps, FX, equities (preferred), and legal documentation (e.g., ISDA, CSAs)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to provide information in usable formats (proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to work independently and self-directed, including on change initiatives or process improvements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high-priority deliverables
  • Strong analytical skills; experience in financial analysis and modeling (preferred)
  • Proficiency in SQL, VBA, Python/R (preferred)
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in another European language is a plus
