Controllers performs critical analysis to ensure that the firm’s internal and external financial and non-financial information is accurate. Additionally, Controllers plays a vital role in safeguarding the firm’s assets through the independent scrutiny of financial and non-financial information. Controllers engages regularly with the firm’s regulators and auditors and, through its strong culture of control and challenge, helps protect the firm from reputational and other risks.

Controllers ensure that the Firm meets all the financial control and reporting obligations of a global, regulated, and publicly traded financial institution. Controllers also ensure that the Firm’s activities are conducted in compliance with the regulations governing transactions in the financial markets.
We are looking for an individual to join our Client Assets function. Responsibilities and scope of the role will include governance, oversight, and collaboration across all revenue and other divisions—such as Legal, Compliance, Audit, and Technology—to ensure adherence to Japan FSA, Australian, and equivalent regulations in other Asian jurisdictions. The role offers opportunities to deepen your understanding of various business offerings.
The Client Assets team is responsible for ensuring compliance with client asset regulations in Japan and Australia, as well as other equivalent regulations in Asia. They are responsible for the daily calculation of client money lock-ups, the segregation of assets in custody, and the analysis of client balances across a broad range of business areas, regulatory governance mechanisms, and periodic reporting within the various regulated entities. The team is also responsible for partnering with business analysis and implementation teams, driving various programs and initiatives, providing operational oversight of Client Assets compliance, improving risk and control frameworks, supporting commercial initiatives, liaising with regulators, and actively participating in both internal and external audits.
Tasks
Responsibilities include the following:
- Actively participate in the investigation, reporting, and identification of root causes of day-to-day exceptions in processes.
- This is an operational role involving the execution of daily processes and controls related to client asset calculations and reporting.
- Coordinate between affected Operations and Engineering teams and Legal, Compliance, and senior management on client asset issues.
- Review operational processes to identify client asset touchpoints and evaluate existing controls to ensure compliance with Asian regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the implementation of new processes and controls in response to changes in regulatory rules and new business initiatives.
- Take an active role in regulatory matters, such as inspections, requests for information, communications, etc.
- Engage with external auditors and submit deliverables and audit evidence to demonstrate and support compliance with CASS requirements.
Profile / Your qualification / Your personality
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience with working knowledge of Asian regulations, preferably in the banking industry
- A self-starter who proactively collaborates with other teams to resolve issues
- It is critically important to have strong risk management skills in this regard and to exercise sound judgment
- Ability to delve into the details of Operations and Engineering processes to fully understand issues
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate issues and solutions to a wide range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, and project management skills
- Ability to manage various deliverables simultaneously throughout the day, meeting deadlines
- Experience with low-code development skills and tools would also be highly advantageous (e.g., Alteryx, SQL, etc.)
